*Due to high demand and limited production capacity due to COVID-19, we highly encourage you to start your redesign process at least 3 months in advance of important dates!
How long does the standard dress redesign process take?
After the dress arrives in the studio, it will take several months until your custom designed products are return shipped to you. This schedule depends on your specific order and the condition of your dress.
We recommend placing your order and starting your dress redesign at least 3 months in advance of any important events. Rush processing is an option however our minimum turnaround for Rush orders is 8 weeks following your design call.
If you are interested in rush production for a tight event deadline 8 weeks from placing your order, please contact our team before you place your order so we can confirm we are able to meet your deadline.
What are your most popular dress redesign products?
Many women redesign their wedding gowns to gift to family members and loved ones! Our products are uniquely one-of-a-kind and designed to be loved for a lifetime.
Our most popular product is the “I Do Getting Ready Bridal Robe”, perfect for the daughter bride who wants to incorporate mom or grandma’s dress on her big day in this very sentimental and special way!
Many people love our custom designed Guardian Angels and have made a dozen or more from one dress. Perfect for the holiday season!
Modern brides love the beautiful Anniversary Collection to upcycle their dress into something elegant and special they will wear again and again.
How many products can I make with my dress?
Great question! Many of our customers have the opportunity to make several beautiful heirloom products from a dress and over an extended period of time. Gown styles and lengths vary so the best way to know how much can be made from your wedding dress is to start with our Design Hub. It’s fun, easy and helpful. https://www.unboxthedress.com/pages/redesign-the-dress/
How do I know that I’ll have enough fabric for the products I choose?
Our Dress Redesign quiz will help you know if you have enough fabric to make all of your selected items.
After you place your order and ship us the dress, our Unbox Design Consultants will call and review the orders specifications before we begin. Some customers choose to buy added yards of satin to increase the number of items that can have made from their dress laces and embellishment. Most of the time the many yards of fabric in a wedding dress will yield multiple garment redesign options.
What happens if there’s extra fabric?
Our team is careful to keep all your remaining fabric and embellishments so you can maximize the redesign potential of your dress.
After your initial order is delivered, you'll be given several options:
- Make additional heirlooms right away!
- Keep your fabrics safe with our team via our partial dress storage plan
- Have your unused fabric returned for the cost of S&H (~$20)
- Donate your fabric to support our Sustainable Angel Program
Please note it is company policy that your fabric will be returned separately from your initial products should you select option 3.
What pieces will you use from my dress?
Our Graceful Sewers™ are professionally trained designers who will use the highest quality and most unique embellishments, lace and fabric when creating your new keepsakes. The lining and body of the dress is often used to create the lining of any garments or gifts. When possible, we use 100% original fabric only.
Our goal is to reflect your original dress' unique design features and your preferences in your finished products! We will discuss the design plan and your ideas/input during your design call after your dress arrives at our Studio.
Do you only use materials from my dress?
Yes, however our designers will use new thread, zippers, clasps or hardware when necessary to complete your custom designs. It’s our goal to capture as much of the original gown design elements as possible! If additional supplementary fabric is needed to extend the number of products you want made from your dress, your design consultant will let you know in advance.
What if my dress has discoloration or damage?
No worries! Depending on the degree of damage to the original gown, we will most likely be able to work around it. In some cases, however, a dry cleaning fee may be applied to maximize the amount of fabric available for the redesign. In a few rare cases, we reserve the right to return your original dress to you if the damage is extreme (in which case you'll be refunded in full.) Slight discolorations are very common in older wedding dresses and do not pose a problem.
Please note that if any insects are found in the dress or packaging, it is our policy that the dress must be dry cleaned before it enters our studio. Our team will let you know and assist you if this is the case.
What if I don’t care for the end product?
Your happiness is our goal! Your Design Consultation is an important opportunity to work with your Design Consultant to come up with a plan based on your order and what's possible with your dress. Ask questions and vocalize your preferences! This is your chance to feel comfortable and excited about the plan for your heirlooms, and we'll take detailed notes.
After you receive your finished heirlooms we would love your feedback! If after seeing your heirlooms you'd like to make changes to the design or size, we're happy to make adjustments. However, please note an alterations fee will apply to cover our team's time.
Due to the custom nature of our garment redesign process, we are unable to accept returns or provide refunds.
Should I have my dress dry cleaned in advance?
If your dress has not been stored in a closed box, or is starting to yellow, having it professionally eco-dry cleaned may yield a more lovely set of end products. However, this is not required. The antique nature of many of the dresses we work with are what create such special, unique sets of end products.
